Helen Maddux

December 31, 1969 — October 19, 2018

Helen Ross Maddux, 86, of Danville, Virginia died peacefully at home on October 19, 2019.  Born in Frederick, Maryland as the daughter of Thelma Bowling Todd and George Johnson Ross, she attended Brenau College joining the Tri Delta sorority in Gainesville, Georgia before meeting Virginia Military Institute cadet F. Webb Maddux in Lexington, Virginia.  Helen and Webb married in Frederick, Maryland on July 11, 1953 and a year later welcomed their daughter, Helen, and several years later their son, Frank.  Work with Black & Decker and Homelite (Textron) took the family to various east coast cities until Helen and Webb retired in Danville, Virginia to be near family. Helen was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother who devoted her life to her family.  She served as a member of the choir and altar guild at every episcopal church where she lived and most recently at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Danville.  She took pride in weekly volunteer work as a patient representative at Danville Regional Medical Center.  She loved traveling to visit family, celebrating holidays, and planning many family and holiday meals.  She was important in the lives of her grandchildren providing fun, music and advice to enrich their lives. Helen is survived by her husband, F. Webster (Webb) Maddux, of Danville.  Close family includes daughter, Helen Maddux Omlor (Joseph) and son, Franklin Webster Maddux (Dugan) as well as grandchildren, Rebecca Omlor Tonozzi (Andrew), Jennifer Omlor Brophy (Chris), Matthew John Omlor (Chelsea Clemons), Emma Maddux Kozlowski (Christopher) and Cabell Ross Maddux (Alexandra Collins).  A family memorial service is planned for November.
