After an extended period of declining health, Hazel Tucker entered her eternal rest on September 5, 2023 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home in Danville, VA. Hazel was born October 22, 1924 in Roanoke VA to Lenora Nash Morris and Leonard Russell Morris. Hazel is survived by her only child Gary Tucker (Debra) of Danville, grandchildren Laura Strait (Ryan) of Rockville, VA, and Morgan Tucker of Fredericksburg, VA. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Ann Wise of Rockdale, Texas. She is predeceased by husband Van Roland Tucker and her brothers, Sam Morris, James Morris, and Jack Morris. Hazel had many wonderful nieces and nephews extending from Virginia to Texas.
Hazel graduated from Jefferson High School in 1943 and in 1952 married the love of her life, Van Roland Tucker, better known to her as, “Tucker”. She lived a happy life with Tucker for 43 years until his passing 1997. Hazel enjoyed a career as a teller at Mountain Trust Bank (later to become Bank of America) for over 30 years. Hazel and her family were blessed with the love and company of Hazel’s mother, Lenora, who lived with them for over 40 years.
A graveside service is planned for Monday, September 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Sherwood Memorial Park, in Salem, VA, with Reverend Susan Hannah officiating. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Roman Eagle Nursing Home, who cared for Hazel for the last seven years.
