Hazel Wilkins Nix, age 92 of Danville, VA , died Friday, November 8, 2013 at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Born December 1, 1920 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Lessie Younger Wilkins and the late Lester Henry Wilkins. On she was married to the late Ernest Orbin Nix on October 8, 1938 She lived all her life in Danville, and was an accountant. She worked at Dan River Accounts Payable Department, Harville Motor Co., and 38 years for Clarke Printing Co., Inc. as accountant and secretary/treasurer of the corporation. She attended Schoolfield High School, George Washington High School, Averett College, and Dan River Technical School. She was a member of First Baptist Church, 871 Main Street in Danville. She was and active member of the Executive Board for the Greater Danville Chapter of the March of Dimes and was secretary from 1972 until 2002. She was elected to the March of Dimes State Board in 1996 and was presented a Proclamation in 1998 proclaiming that she was commended and recognized for her dedication and support to the mission of the March of Dimes. She was and active member of the Dan-Pitts Chapter of the American Business Women's Association since 1969 and was nominated "Women of the Year" in 1979. She was a past member of the Printing Industry of the Virginias and America. She was also past president of the Hill Toppers Club from 1993 -1994. She was elected "Women of the Day" in 1992 from a letter submitted by Robert H. Clarke. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Gloria Nix Lewis and two brothers, James Henry Wilkins and Edgar Thomas Wilkins. She is survived by two granddaughters, Angie Lewis Blankenship of Danville and Kim Lewis Cantley of Raleigh, NC; one nephew, James Vernon Wilkins of Miami, Florida; one niece, Jackie Pyles of Tobaccoville, NC; and a special cousin, Penny Turner Peden. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Highland Burial Park with the Reverend John Carroll officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
