Hattie Agee

October 7, 1909 — July 21, 2014

Hattie Susan Frances Spencer Agee, age 105, born July 10, 1909 to Rebecca Turner Spencer and Herford Spencer in Henry County, Virginia, died peacefully July 21, 2014 at the home of her daughter Majorie Agee Milam in Rocky Mount, Virginia. She lived most of her life in Danville where she was employed for over fifty years by Dan River Mills. Hattie was predeceased in 1987 by her husband, Stuart Hurt Agee, and in 2005 by her son-in-law, Richard T. Milam and grandson-in-law, Rev. James F. Hannah. She was also predeceased by her parents and fifteen siblings. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by her grandson, Dr. Richard T. Milam, Jr. and wife Belinda H. Milam of Forrest, VA; and granddaughter, Rev. Susan Milam Hannah and husband, H. Michael Parrish of Danville, VA. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren: Kevin Hurt, wife Amy and sons William and Nathan; Lindsay Milam Finch, husband Derek and children Charlotte Jo and Rush; Sarah Milam and fiancé, Dustin Cook; Stuart Hannah and fiancé, Wendy Deaner; James Hannah; Timothy Hannah; Rebekah Hannah Tinsley and husband, Zach. Hattie was a longtime member of Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church and the Chapel Bible Class both of which she attended faithfully well into her nineties. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, and quilting. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, July 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Townes Memorial Chapel, 215 West Main Street, Danville, VA with the Rev. Freddie Vicks and the Rev. Susan Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm and at other times at the home of her daughter in Rocky Mount or granddaughter (5160 Old Richmond Rd.) in Danville. The family wishes to thank Emma Woods, Hattie's caregiver and the staff of Franklin-Carillon Hospice, most especially Kitty Ruby, Joe Grissetti, and Dr. Linda Beahm. The family respectfully requests memorials to Third Avenue Congregational Christian Church (215 Third Avenue, Danville, VA 24540) or Franklin - Carillon Hospice (180 Floyd Ave., Rocky Mount, VA 24251)
