Harold Louis Wood, 93, of 246 Arnett Blvd., died Monday, October 13, 2014 in Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He was born on December 9, 1920 in Pittsylvania County, Va., a son of the late Benjamin Harrison Wood and Lottie Gregory Wood After graduating from high school, he joined the Virginia National Guard. He was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a tobacco buyer for Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company, retiring as a supervisor in 1980 after 41 years of service. He was an avid golfer and a charter member of Tuscarora Country Club. After retiring, he enjoyed gardening. Harold is survived by his wife, Margaret Hodnett Wood, of the home; two daughters, Barbara Wood Motley and her husband, James "Buster" and Nancy Wood Still and her husband, Billy, all of Danville; three grandchildren, Oliver Still and his wife, Celeste, Brian Still, all of Danville and Aaron Motley and his wife, Lisa of Alexandria, Va.; and two step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was also predeceased by two brothers, Ben Wood and Raymond Wood; and three sisters, Louise Mann, Christine Elliott and Charlotte Williams. The family would like to especially thank caregivers, Georgetta Walton and Vivian Watkins, for the exceptional care given to Harold. Graveside services will be held Thursday, October 16 at 11 a.m. at Highland Burial Park with the Reverend Charles Wickham officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 15, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
