Mr. Gordon W. Scott of 698 Ferry Road died Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a decline in health. Mr. Scott was born in Danville on August 12, 1929, a son of the late Walter Roy Scott and Maude Gordon Scott. A veteran of World War II having served in the United States Marine Corps and was retired from the City of Danville after 32 years of service as a supervisor in the Water and Gas Department. Besides his parents he was predeceased by two sisters, Marie S. Orluske and Paula S. Trese. Mr. Scott loved Nascar racing and was an avid Earnhart fan. He also loved his beloved dogs, Chevy and Annie. He is survived by his wife of the home; Mealie G. Scott of the home and a son, Michael L. Scott of Dry Fork, one sister, Elayne S. Scarce of Danville. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. from the graveside at Highland Burial Park with Coy Harville officiating. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Dan River Post #1097 and Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Monday, February 17, 2014 from 7 to 8:30 P.M. and at other times will be at the residence, 698 Ferry Road. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Scott family.
