Gordon S. Jones, 88, of Danville, VA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at SOVAH Health on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
Gordon was born on March 22, 1935, to William Jones and Winona Gordon Jones. He had one brother, Roy Jones, and two sisters, Margie Jones Mclean, and Edith Jones Rector (all deceased). He is survived by his wife, Myrtie Lane Jones of 59 years; daughter, Barbara Jo Phillips (Charles E. Phillips, Jr.). He is predeceased by a son, Ricky Lane Crumpton. He is survived also by five grandsons, Charles E. Phillips, III (Shanna), Robert Stone Phillips (Amanda), Joey Reed Phillips (Amanda), Andrew Nicholas Crumpton (Jenney), and Corey Joseph Crumpton (Tia). Gordon was a proud great-grandfather of 7 great-grandchildren: Caroline, Grayson, Mason, Olivia, Lily Grace, Levi, and Luca. Also, a niece, Janet Bryant, and a nephew, Benny Rector.
Gordon was a member of Holland Road Baptist Church, Danville, VA. He was a faithful treasurer for 48 years. He loved his church and his Lord and Savior.
He graduated from Ruffin High School, class of 1954. He was a charter member of the Ruffin Fire Dept. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. He loved his country and was proud to serve.
Gordon retired from Blackwell Motors in June of 2000, but continued to pick up cars from time to time with his good friend, Lowell Rowland.
The funeral will be Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Townes Funeral Home, 215 W Main St., Danville, VA. The visitation will be at 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral at 2:00 PM, officiated by the Reverend James Mayes. Interment will follow at Schoolfield Cemetery with Military Honors. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
