Gloria Lee Martin Farthing died March 19, 2023. She was born on April 4, 1931, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, a daughter to the late Leonard Neal Martin and Willie Loraine Guthrie Martin.
Gloria was married for 50 years to Wilbur Wallace Farthing, who passed away on November 16, 2003.
Gloria graduated from Cobb Memorial High School, attended Phillips Business College, and later earned a degree in early childhood education from Technical College of Alamance while working. She retired from Caswell County Schools with 27 years of service as a teacher’s assistant at Oakwood Elementary School. Gloria was a member of Providence Baptist Church and one of the final members of the Shady Grove Extension Homemakers. She loved her travels and friendships made with Caswell County Senior Center “Gadabouts,” especially her trips to New York.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gloria is predeceased by her brother, Richard Jennings Martin, and his wife, Mary Wilma. She was also predeceased by her two long-time neighbors in the Gatewood Community and dear friends, Catherine Hutson and Marion Cooper.
Gloria is survived by her son and best bud William Neal “Bill” Farthing, a sister-in-law, Helen Farthing Ledford, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held at Townes Funeral Home on Thursday, March 23, 2023, from 4:00-6:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery on Friday, March 24, 2023, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Mitch Cifers officiating.
