Beloved Husband, Father and Papa, Glenn D. McDonald went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 29, 2012. He was born on December 16, 1924 to George Dewey McDonald and Willa Lamb McDonald. He was the last living member of his family of two brothers and one sister. Two sons, Glenn Dewey McDonald and Gregory Dale McDonald and one granddaughter, Serenity Suzanne Dixon, predeceased him. On June 10, 1946, he married the love of his life, Alice Caroline Bond who survives. He leaves three daughters, Suzanne C. Moore of Danville, Dianne M. Harr and her husband Jim of Dry Fork, Valerie M. Swenson and her husband, Brad, of Anderson, SC, and one son, George D. McDonald and his wife Stephanie, of Danville. He also leaves 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was a man of great faith who lived the Word in all he said and did. He served in the US Army during WWII where he earned the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars and the Medal of Honor. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company as Personnel Director after 42 years of service. He was a Sunday School Teacher, song leader, Explorer Leader, and avid volunteer. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Townes Funeral Home and at other times at 136 Beverly Road. Funeral services will be on Monday, December 3, at 2:00 p.m. at the Townes Memorial Chapel and he will be laid to rest at Danville Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Military honors will be presented by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097 and Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street, is serving the McDonald family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Danville.
