Geraldine Crowder Gosney, 92, of 8900 Old Richmond Road, Keeling, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018, surrounded by her family at SOVA Health in Danville. Born November 16, 1925, in the Chestnut Level community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late George Hunter Crowder and Minnie Motley Crowder. She graduated from Dan River High School as Valedictorian in 1943. On October 30, 1948, she married the late Elwood Leon Gosney of Keeling. She worked for Sears, Roebuck for over 44 years as a sales associate and department manager. Due to the illness of her husband, she retired in 1991. One of her greatest loves was her church. She was a charter member of Kentuck Presbyterian Church, where she was a former choir member, Elder, Clerk of the Session, and Moderator of the Presbyterian Women. In addition, she was a Sunday School teacher for over 60 years. She is survived by her daughter, Janice McCain and husband Phillip of Keeling; granddaughter, Agatha Miller and husband Chad of Chesapeake, Virginia; grandson Joseph McCain of Rescue, Virginia; and two great-grandchildren, Brody and McKean Miller of Chesapeake. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by four brothers—Douglas, Carter, Otis, and Edgar Crowder; and two sisters—Elsie Owen and Rosa Lee Parks, as well as by a granddaughter, Jessica Carol McCain. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 23, at Kentuck Presbyterian Church in Keeling with Pastor David R. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the church between 12:30 and 1:30 before the service and at other times will be at the home of the deceased. As per her wishes, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Jessica C.
