George B. Mowbray, III passed peacefully away at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC on April 21, 2014 after several years of failing health. George was born in Danville on July 8, 1962, the son of the late George B. Mowbray, Jr. who died in 1978 and his Mother Barbara M. Brown of Danville. Besides his Father he was predeceased by his step-father, William R. Brown. He was a self- employed mechanic who had a talent for repairing cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed repairing cars for his friends and family. At the time of his death he and his son were restoring several vintage autos. As a youth he participated in motor cross events, winning several trophies. He had worked at Ballou Park Car Wash, KFC and Crane Tire Company. George had lived briefly in Las Vegas where he handled catering for a major airline. He was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church and attended George Washington High School and Danville Community College where he studied aviation. He enjoyed playing the drums and in recent years he enjoyed flying remote control planes and helicopters. Besides his Mother of the home he is survived by a son, George B. Mowbray IV of the home, two sisters, Kimberly Garcia of Danville and Mary M. Flanary and her husband Charles of Christiansburg. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. from the Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Rick Markham officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 7 to 8:30 P.M. and at other times will be at the residence, 1312 College Park Drive. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Mowbray family.
