George Frank Lewis Sr., age 90, of Abingdon Place of Danville, died Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Salem V.A. Hospital, Salem, Va. He was born on February 13, 1924 in Pittsylvania County, to the late James M. Lewis and Mary Woody Lewis. He was married to Dorothy Davis Lewis who predeceased him on November 21, 2013. Mr. Lewis was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart. He worked for Dan River Mills and was a member of Sandy Shores Baptist Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post 325, A.T. Gammon Chapter 19 D.A.V., past Post Senior Vice-Commander of V.F.W. 8977, and past Post Commander of V.F.W. Post 647. Mr. Lewis is survived by two sons, Tracy Lynn Lewis of Danville, and George Frank Lewis Jr. and his wife, Vickie, of Burlington, N.C.; four grandsons, Rodney Lewis, Jason Lewis, Justin Lewis, and Brandon Lewis; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Lewis; and a special niece, Linda Corn. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Billy Scearce officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park with military honors by American Legion Post 1097 and the Virginia Army National Guard. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 2 until 4 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to God's Store House, 750 Memorial Drive, Danville, VA 24541
