Garrett A. Easley, 89, of Sutherlin, VA, passed away on Sunday, July 10th, 2022. He was known as “Pee Wee” by many of his friends. Mr. Easley was born on October 8th, 1932, in Danville, VA, the son of the late Percy Easley and the late Bernice Adams Easley. He spent 27 years in the United States Army where he served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His last 19 years were spent as an army pilot. His last flight before his retirement was a 32 day trip around the world. On that trip, he visited the capitols of 14 nations. After retiring from the Army, he operated Riverside Coin Shop, which his father had operated before him. He ran the shop for 43 years, where he made many great memories with his customers and friends. He was married to Barbara Newby Easley for 61 years. She predeceased him on August 10, 2019. He is survived by his daughter, Jayne Church and husband Craig; a grandson, James Church; a granddaughter, Rebecca Hudson and husband Jonathan; two great grandchildren, Jonah and Mary Katherine Hudson; a sister, June Easley Daniel; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday July 14th, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Townes Funeral Home with the Reverend Larry Davis officiating. Interment will follow the service in Highland Burial Park with military honors conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
