Mr. Frederick Keith Maurakis, age 60 of Danville died Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, NC after an illness. He was born in Danville on March 30, 1954, a son of the late Albert P. Maurakis and Terpsie Kypriss Maurakis. Keith was a member of Saint Peter's Greek Orthodox Church and had worked at Goodwill Industries and the Hatcher Center. He was an active participant in the Special Olympics and received numerous awards and medals. Keith was selected to present a handmade quilt from the Hatcher Center to President Ronald Reagan which was instrumental in increased funding and awareness for special needs individuals throughout the United States. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Victoria K. Maurakis Bicouvaris. He is survived by two brothers; Andrew P. Maurakis of Winnipeg, M.B. Canada and Timothy A. Maurakis of Danville. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. from Saint Peter's Greek Orthodox Church with Father Peter Rexinis officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. A Trisagion Prayer Service will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. at Townes Funeral Home. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Maurakis family.
