Frank Van Valkenburg

March 12, 1942 — October 5, 2022

Frank Van Valkenburg III, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 after a long illness. Born in Oklahoma City, December 3, 1942, he was the son of the late Frank Van Valkenburg II and Winnie Mae Ware Van Valkenburg. Frank played football for the University of Colorado where he was a Tri-Captain his Senior year. He married his wife Carol in Hawaii in 1967 and they moved to Danville, Virginia, where Frank was employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company as an Area Manager. He was a self taught, talented, Natural Light Photographer and never tired of creating beautiful images. He is survived by his wife, Carol, daughter, Feletia VV Sharples (husband John), son, Frank Van Valkenburg IV (wife Denise), four grandchildren, Thomas “Graham” Sharples, Gracyn Sharples Troxell, Frank Van Valkenburg V and Sophia Van Valkenburg. Frank was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. A gentle and kind man who was deeply admired and loved. He will be dearly missed. Life's journey is never long enough for those left behind. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggest memorial contributions be made to Hospice Promise Foundation. The Van Valkenburg family would like to thank the dedicated and loving staff of Commonwealth Stratford Senior Living Memory Care. Special thanks to Sue and Sheritta who made this journey with us so much easier. Visitation will be held Saturday, May 14th, from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM. Arrangements are by Townes Funeral Home, 215 West Main Street.
