Forrest Obery Chumley, Jr, 61, of Dry Fork, VA, was called Home to join the Lord and his family, on Thursday, December 21, 2023, after a brief illness.
On October 11, 1962, he was born in Danville, VA, a son of the late Ethel Mae Butts Chumley and the late Forrest Obery Chumley, Sr. He was raised in Yanceyville, NC, where he attended Bartlett Yancey High School. He worked for Dan River Inc., until their closing in 2004; he then worked for Virginia Carolina Auto Auction and Quality Construction. In his early years, he enjoyed fast cars and car meets, especially his 1970 yellow Shaker Hood Mach 1 Mustang. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his loved ones, fishing and hunting, sometimes scoring more deer with his Jeep than his rifle. He was the backbone of his family, and the glue that held them all together was his love.
On October 30, 2009, he married Victoria Harris Chumley, who survives of the residence.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Elecia Chumley (mother, Wanda Aaron Walker), and husband Lee Carter, of Danville, Arielle Nieves, and husband, Scott, of Roanoke, VA; three sons, Richard Nieves, of Roanoke, VA, Bobby Lee Clayton, and Jonathan Hutcherson, of the residence; two sisters, Sheila Shumaker, of Mebane, NC, and Linda Winn, of Pelham, NC; two brothers, Carl and David Chumley, both of Pelham, NC; many nieces and nephews; and seven fur babies, Major, Ruby, Mr. Beefy, Mr. Scratchy, Oreo, Tinkerbell, and Mickey Mouse.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Donna Hoskins; and a nephew, Lee Shumaker.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, at 1:00 PM, in Community Baptist Church Cemetery, Yanceyville, NC, with Rev. Wayne Aaron officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Townes Funeral Home.
