Florence Farmer Gery of 122 North Woodberry Avenue, Danville, VA died Wednesday August 10, 2016 at Danville Regional Medical Center after a three year decline in health. She was born June 13, 1940 in Halifax County Virginia to the late Maynard Ewell Farmer and the late Evelyn Hall Farmer. Miss Flo, as she was affectionately known by her coworkers and patients, was a registered nurse for nearly 48 years. After graduating from Wilson School of Nursing, Flo worked labor and delivery at Danville Regional Medical Center for 7 years. She later worked at Piney Forest Nursing Home as Director of Inservice for 13 years. The last 28 years of her nursing career was spent at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute and Strafford Rehabilitation Center as a registered nurse. Flo was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Flo is predeceased by one son James Frank Gery III and one sister Elsie Farmer Whitefield. She is survived by two sons, Frederick Steven Gery and wife Kim of Ringgold, VA; Anthony Reynolds Gery of Danville, VA; daughter-in-law Tommye Blair Gery of Danville, VA; one brother, James Farmer of Vernon Hill, VA; one sister Betty Ware of North Wilkesboro, NC; and four grandchildren: Matthew Gery (Christen), Nathaniel Gery, Kristina Gery, and Sarah Gery. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 13, 2016 at 3 pm at Townes Funeral Home with Dr. Doug Barbour officiating. Visitation will precede the memorial service at 1:30 pm and at other times at the residence of Frederick Steven Gery, 4688 Kentuck Road, Ringgold VA.
