Eva Harris

May 20, 1922 — August 22, 2013

Eva Ruth Rakes Harris, 91, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on August 22, 2013 at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, Virginia. She was born in Bassett, VA to Shade Lee Rakes and Sarah Lou Lackey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Garfield Harris and an infant son, Louis Coleman Harris. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Wesley "Bo" Harris and his wife, Vivian of Mebane, NC, and Charlie Harris and his wife, Sherry, of Poquoson, VA; five beloved grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Also, surviving her are two loving sisters, Verna Ramsey of Rocky Mount, VA and Mae Jones of Bassett, VA, many nieces and nephews, and her dearest best friend, Louise Dalton. She was employed by Dan River Mills for many years. She was a faithful member of Stokesland United Methodist Church and she will be remembered for her ministry of visiting residents in nursing homes. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral services will be held at Townes Memorial Chapel, Saturday August 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Laurice Jones-Wilks officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service at Townes Funeral Home.
