Elmer Jefferson (Bob) Alderson was born September 8, 1924 in Danville to Alice Wingfield Alderson and Grover C. Alderson. He had two brothers James Edward Alderson 1917-2017, Harry C. Alderson 1919-2005 and one sister Eleanor A. Herndon 1921-2005. Bob was married in 1946 to Evelyn L. Mangrum 1927-1991. He is survived by one son, David A. Alderson of Danville, VA. Bob lived in Danville until he entered military service in 1943. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. After Bob left the Navy in 1946, he married Miss Mangrum and then joined the Danville Police Department as an officer. He remained with the police force until 1959, when he went to work with radio station WDVA as a salesman. He remained with WDVA until 1980, when he moved to WAKG. At WAKG Bob was also a salesman. He remained at WAKG until his retirement in 1991. Bob has had a very active and well controlled life. His only setback was heart bypass surgery in 1991, eight weeks after his wife’s death. Bob has been a very devoted church member and was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Third Avenue Church. Bob was an avid golfer and played many years as a member of Tuscarora Country Club and later Ringgold Golf Club. Bob was a devoted husband and father. A funeral service will be held Thursday July 7, 2022 11:00am at Trinity United Methodist Church with Reverend Freddie Vicks officiating with interment at Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday July 6, 2022 from 7:00 to 8:30pm at Townes Funeral Home. Townes Funeral Home, 215 West Main Street, is serving the Alderson family.
