Elizabeth Pollok went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Stratford Rehab Center. She had just celebrated her 105th birthday. Elizabeth was born on her family farm in the Whitmell community of Pittsylvania County, VA on April 25, 1911. She was the second daughter of Jessie Thomas Tarpley and Joseph Albert Tarpley . She graduated from Whitmell Farm Life School in 1928 and graduated from Longwood College in 1931. She taught first grade at Unity and Sharon Schools for ten years before marrying her husband, Robert Morris Pollok in 1943. Until then she had been a member of Whitmell Methodist Church, but then she was baptized in the Morefield River and became a member of Sharon Baptist Church where she was very active up until the age of 92. She is very passionate about her family and was the main caregiver for her mother-in-law, aunts, uncle, father and her husband who died in 1980. She believes God is her Saviour and hard work is admirable and expected of everyone. She was a very outspoken person who believed the earth’s bounty should never be wasted. Elizabeth is predeceased by her husband, Morris, daughter in law, Billie Pollok, and sisters, Garland Johnson, Mary Tarpley, Eleanor Tarpley, Nancy Tarpley and Josephine Rawls. Elizabeth is survived by her son, Bob Pollok and daughter, Mary Helen Collins (husband Carl). She also has three grandchildren, Mary Ryland Johnson (husband Brian), Carrie Touart (husband Patrick), and Robert Pollok (wife Wendy) and 5 great-grandchildren. She loved cooking, farming, and especially gardening. She loved sharing the bounty of her garden with others. She became an avid reader late in life, but her favorite pastime was DANCING! Visitation will be at Townes Funeral Home on Saturday, April 30, 7-8 pm. A graveside service will be held on Sunday May 1 at Highland Burial Park at 2:00 pm.
