Elizabeth “Sissy” Marshall, 90, of Danville, VA, passed away Saturday at Sovah Health - Danville. Sissy was a light to everyone and truly never met a stranger. She was always smiling and laughing and was a joy to be around. Sissy loved being with family and friends more than anything. If you added golf to the mix, she was even happier. Sissy was an excellent golfer who won many tournaments over the years in the Danville area. When she wasn’t playing golf, she was spending time at the beach or otherwise travelling and living life to the fullest.
Sissy was born on July 24, 1932 to her parents George Washington Smith and Sallie Angie Mitchell Smith in Danville, Va. She graduated from Schoolfield High in 1953. Soon after she met the love of her life, Webster Marshall. They got married before he was shipped off to fight for his country in the Korean War. In 1960 Sissy helped Webster start Marshall Ready Mix which became Marshall Concrete Products, a Danville staple for half a century.
She was preceded in death by her husband Webster and her eleven brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her two sons, Danny Marshall and his wife, Kaye of Danville and Steve Marshall and his wife, Ginny of Blacksburg, VA; four grandchildren, Jessica Younginer and husband, Jeff of Wilmington, NC, Danielle Marshall of Salem, VA, Aaron Marshall and his wife, Jessalyn of Springville, UT, Jennifer Marshall Silver and her husband, Lucas Silver of Canton, NC; and twelve great-grandchildren, Marshall and Davis Younginer, Mason and Aidan Hylton, Adalyn, Gardner, MaryGrace, Jason and Isabelle Marshall, and Georgia, Tyson and Ramsey Silver.
