Elizabeth Anne Throckmorton Childs went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with her family by her side on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Anne will be lovingly remembered by her children Jane (Ted Morris) and Patrick (Katherine Childs); grandchildren: Mary Catherine Morris, Madeleine Morris, and Jack Childs; as well as numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 45 years, Jack Stith Childs; and her parents Joseph Goodman Throckmorton and Jane ‘Janie’ Elizabeth Mills Throckmorton. Anne was a proud native of Danville, VA and graduated from George Washington High School in 1957. She worked for the Home Beneficial Insurance Company. Her future husband, Jack, moved to Danville in 1958 after graduating from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to work for the Danville Register & Bee. They often saw each other at the bus stop and formally met when he modeled for the YWCA Women’s Club fashion show. They were married on October 22, 1961 at Duke Memorial Methodist Church in Durham, NC. Jack’s position as City Editor with the News & Observer relocated them to Raleigh, NC and he subsequently served as Press Secretary for Gov. Jim Holshouser. They happily lived in Raleigh for the rest of their lives. Anne was a beloved, loyal daughter, wife, mother and friend. She worked at the North Carolina General Assembly from 1979 to 2001. After retirement, she was a devoted Grandmommy and AnneMa. She was a patriot, conservative Southern Baptist and a woman of many passions including American history, Elvis Presley and a wide variety of music. Her favorite places to visit were Williamsburg, Mount Vernon and England. The family will receive friends and family on Friday, September 9, 2022 at Lady Fingers Cafe, 3710 Exchange Glenwood Place in Raleigh from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Anne will be laid to rest on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Highland Burial Park in Danville where a graveside memorial will be held at 11:00 a.m.
