Reverend Elbert M. Williamson, 91, passed away on September 30, 2013, in West Palm Beach, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy T. Williamson, and his two children, Mary Anna Williamson of Memphis, Tennessee, and John M. Williamson and his wife, Joan, of Richmond, Virginia, and two grandchildren, David M. Williamson of Columbia, Maryland, and Emily D. Tedrow, of Branson Missouri. Rev. Williamson was a graduate of Hamden-Sydney College and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy in the south Pacific. He served pastorates in West Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee before moving back to his home town of Danville, Virginia, where he served as an Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church. Upon his retirement he was named Pastor Emeritus of the Church. He was also an author, having written for the Christian Observer, and publishing Circle Bible Studies, and several books, including Message to Theophilus. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home on Saturday, October 5 from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M.; a graveside service will be conducted at Green Hill Cemetery on Sunday, October 6, at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church to further its mission to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
