Elaine Cantin Smith of Danville entered into Eternal Life October 26, 2021, following a short illness. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 65 years, Charles ”Bud” Glenn Smith and six of their seven children; Terrie Stone, Chris Smith (Cindy), Tim Smith (Mary Jo), Barbara Taylor (Robert), Mark Smith (Sandy) and Doug Smith (Jennifer), 15 grandchildren; Sarah Stone (Ed), Rebekah Duncan (Kyle), Charlie Smith (Caroline), David Smith, Danielle Smith, Nicole Herrmann (Peter), Lexy Smith, Steven Smith (Hanneke), Noah Smith, Bobby Taylor (Brandi), Ken Merkel (Erin), Tony Merkel (Olivia), Daniel Smith, Joshua Smith and Jason Smith, along with 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Eileen Cantin and brother, Richard “Dick” Cantin, both of Indianapolis, Indiana. Elaine was born November 29, 1937, in Waterbury, Connecticut to Romeo W. Cantin and Eva Mary Ouimet Cantin, who predeceased her, in addition to a son, Glenn Russell Smith and a sister, Marjorie Meyer (Ralph). The youngest of four children, she grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she married her high school sweetheart, Bud Smith, in 1956. She was a faith-filled, selfless woman who loved God and her family. She retired from CIT in 2003, and had previously worked for Dan River Mills Trucking. She loved to travel with her husband, having traveled through all 50 states and several other countries. She was a talented artist, tech savvy photographer, seamstress, and jack-of-all trades. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 5, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 538 Central Blvd., Danville, with visitation at the church at 10 a.m. There will be a Visitation/Wake at the church Thursday evening from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. and at other times at the home.
