Edward Boisseau Cassada (E.B.) of the Mt. Hermon community unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 20, at his residence. He was 92 years old.
He is survived by his bride of 73 years, Ramona Scarce Cassada of the residence; daughter, Patti Cassada Merricks and husband Donald; and son, Edward B. (Eddie) Cassada, Jr. and wife Lori, all of Danville as well as his sister, Carolyn Owen of Mount Holly, N.C.; and brother, Boyd “Butch” Cassada (Winnie) of Danville.
He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Lori Merricks of Danville; D. Merricks (Corrie) of Wilmore, Kentucky; Elizabeth Cassada Ballard (Glenn) of Utrecht, Netherlands; and Edward B. (Beau) Cassada, III (Brianna) of Penn Laird, Virginia and great-grandchildren Isaiah, Ezra, Phoebe, Liam and Corbin.
E.B. was predeceased by his parents Newton Thomas Cassada, Sr. and Willie Slaughter Cassada of Danville; siblings Helen Cassada Astin; Newton T. Cassada, Jr.; Lettie Jean Cassada Collins; and infant daughter, Sharon Kaye Cassada.
E.B. attended Mt. Hermon Elementary School and graduated from Whitmell Farm Life School. After graduation, he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He began his career as a self-employed brick mason later becoming a troubleshooter for Santee Portland Cement Company. He retired as a project manager for small jobs for John W. Daniel & Co., Inc. E.B. and his wife also purchased Mustain Glass, later known as Piedmont Glass, which was sold to his son and daughter-in-law. They also purchased J. W. Squire Co., Inc., which was sold to his daughter and son-in-law.
E.B. was a devout Christian of the Baptist faith. He was a founding member of the Mt. Hermon Volunteer Fire Department and a longtime member of the Danville Rotary Club. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, community service and faithfulness that his family will cherish and continue to practice.
His celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at Townes Funeral Home in Danville with Rev. Don Davidson and Rev. Dr. D. Merricks presiding followed by a private graveside service. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. prior to the service and all other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
