Edna Matherly

Edna Irene Adkins Matherly died Monday, November 4, 2013. She was born April 2, 1923 in Pittsylvania County to the late James Neal Adkins and Hettie Dodd Adkins. She was married to Cyril (Cy) Matherly who predeceased her in 2000. She retired from Durham Hosiery after 38 years. She was a member of College Park Baptist Church. She was the last survivor of her generation. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur (Red) Adkins, and Lanier (Block) Adkins; and three sisters, Louise A. Barton, Lenora Weidner, and Inez Roach, a brother-in-law, Benny Matherly. She is survived by two nephews, Dr. Robert Weidner (Susan) of Maryland and David Weidner (Cathy) of Florida; two nieces, Dr. Virginia Pennington of Louisiana and Pat Finch of Danville; one grand-niece, Gray Michel of Yorktown, VA; three sisters-in-law, Kathrine M. Adkins, Velma Hawker and Hilda Leigh; and her church family. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 11:00 at Townes Memorial Chapel by the Reverend Dr. CAM McIntire and the Reverend Archer McIntire. Burial will follow in Highland Burial Park.
