Eddie Nelle Canter died on May 7, 2021, at home in Danville, Va. Mrs. Canter, born and educated in Georgia, was the daughter of Roy Few and Nelle Watson Michael of Athens, Georgia. She was married to William Bethell Canter who predeceased her on January 5, 2007. An employee of Dan River Inc., Mrs. Canter was secretary to the Vice President of Engineering, as well as instructor in the Adult Education Programs. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, serving for 13 years as Church treasurer, as well as a member of the Administrative Board and treasurer of the Women of the Church. She was an ongoing member of the Danville Historical Society; an organizing member of the Joseph Gravely Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; and a charter member of the Henry Corbin Chapter, Colonial Dames XVII Century, serving as an officer on the local, district and state levels. She was a member of the Wednesday Club, Anna Eliza John's Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, National Society of Magna Carta Dames and Daughters of the American Colonists. She served as a board member of Glen Oak Golf Club and secretary-treasurer of the Pittsylvania County Industrial Development Board for a number of years. Mrs. Canter is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at Green Hill Cemetery on May 13, 2021 at 2:00pm.
