E. G. Tanksley, age 96, died Thursday morning, October 18, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. “T”, as he was known by his friends and co-workers, was born August 3, 1920. He was son of Ernest G. and Lucy Lewis Tanksley. He was a resident of the Keeling community until he married Melba Gosney and they moved to Danville to start their life together. This holy union began on December 6, 1941 and was in its 74th year. They were almost ready to celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary. Mr. T was a graduate of Dan River High School in 1940 and started his working career in the retail business, retiring from Leggett Company with twenty five years of service. He was a member of the Moffett Memorial Baptist Church for sixty five years. He was an ordained deacon that served until his health prevented his service. Surviving Mr T is his wife of the residence, his son E. Dale Tanksley of Danville, grandchildren, Brian D. Tanksley, Brandon Tanksley and Drew Tanksley. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by is his daughter-in-law, Patricia Tanksley. He was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother and his son, Reid Tanksley. A celebration of Mr. T’s life will be conducted on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm from Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Drew Tanksley and the Reverend Dr. M. David Chambers officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. Visitation will be Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Townes Funeral Home from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm and other times at the residence.
