Dr. Ramon Rondobio Erasmo passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the age of 85. Born on February 3, 1939 in Cebu, Philippines, he was the son of Teodorico and Pacita Erasmo.
Dr. Erasmo lived and practiced Neurosurgery in Danville, VA from 1973 to 2000 when he retired.
Ramon graduated from Southwestern University in Cebu City, Philippines. He was President of the student government, which enabled him to visit Manila for the first time. He was in general practice in the Philippines from 1962-1963. His first stop in the United States was at Euclid-Glenville Hospital in Ohio where he had rotating internships. From there he completed three years of a general surgery residency, also in Ohio. He then entered a neurosurgical residency program at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. He became chief resident as well as earning the 1st Master's of Science in Experimental Surgery.
Ramon began his practice in Danville in 1973.
He was an avid tennis player and played at least twice a week with a group of like-minded tennis athletes. He also served as president of the Foundation of Southwest Virginia Association of Philippine Physicians.
He is survived by his wife Santhia McDowell Erasmo of the residence, his daughter, Melecia Erasmo Cua (Carter) of Warren, New Jersey, a granddaughter, Faye Cosette Cua, and sister Esther Ong (Eking) of Iligan City, Philippines. He is preceded in death by his parents Teodorico and Pacita Erasmo and a sister, Lourdes Erasmo.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday April 15, 2024 at 2pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Danville Memorial Gardens.
