Douglas Earl Wilson Mr. Douglas Earl Wilson of 520 Ferry Road died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC after a decline in health. Mr. Wilson was transferred from Danville Regional Medical Center because of complications from surgery. He was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on April 10, 1938, a son of Frances Wilson Bates of Danville and the late Reed Arnold Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a devoted and loving husband to Mildred Williamson Wilson of 54 years. They were married in l959. He was an avid wrestling and automobile racing fan. Mr. Wilson was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Wilson worked at Dan River, Inc. for a number of years and later worked at Danville Public Works as a groundskeeper. Besides his Father Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by a son, Mark Allen Wilson, siblings, Gladys Wilson Blackburn, Jerry Wayne Wilson and Gary Ricky Bates. Mr. Wilson is survived by his wife of the home; Mildred Williamson Wilson, one daughter, Donna Wilson Lester and her husband Tony of Pelham, NC, one sister, Margaret Wilson Bolton of Altavista, two brothers, John Randy Bates and Nelson Ray Bates both of Danville. Also surviving is a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. from Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Dr. CAM McIntire officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home one hour before the service and at other times will be at the residence, 520 Ferry Road. The family requests that memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.
