Douglas Howard

Douglas Brian Howard, age 59, of Virginia Beach, Va. passed away unexpectedly on February 14, 2015. He was born June 22, 1955 in Danville, to the late Thomas Glenn Howard and late Marie Hein Howard. Doug graduated from George Washington High School in 1973 and was a member of the United States Air Force from 1976 to 1980. He served as a member of the Communications Group at Langley A.F.B and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Following service he was employed by Verizon until his retirement in 2009. He is survived by his siblings, Judy Blackard (Harold) of Semora, NC, Linda Walker (Bill) of Apex, NC., Tom Howard (Rena), Bob Howard (Connie) and trusted friend Pam Boor, all of Danville, Va. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews (Melanie, Robbie, Thomas, Robert, Kristi, Kati, Carrie, Amanda, Anya and Ross) and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews. Doug was a loving brother and uncle, who looked forward to the opportunities he had to spend with his family. He especially enjoyed the annual family vacations to Ocean Isle Beach and gatherings at Smith Mountain Lake. He loved animals and enjoyed the Norfolk Botanical Gardens Eagle Cam. A private memorial service will be held. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Danville or Pittsylvania County Humane Society. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Howard family.
