Dorothy Ruth Heath Bryant, age 95, of Blairs, Va. passed away Monday, October 08, 2018 in Carillon Hospital in Roanoke, Va. Dorothy was one of twelve children born to James M. Heath and Maggie Wright Heath on June 5, 1923. She was preceded in death by her parents; her six brothers, James, Claude, Bill, Harry, Carson and Carroll; her five sisters, Mable, Elmer, Mary, Gladys Rachel; her husband, Clarence D. “Pete” Bryant, Jr. and her grandson Clarence D. Bryant, IV. She is survived by a son, Clarence D. Bryant, III (Betty); a daughter, Donna Bryant Hayes; three grandchildren, Robert D. Hayes (Shavon), Molly Hayes French (Chris), Heather Hayes Barrow(Neil); five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is the husband of Rachel, Leon Miller, a close member of the family. Dorothy graduated from Callands School and attended Averett College studying business and bookkeeping. Clarence D. Bryant, Jr. and Dorothy were married on April 26, 1946. She became the bookkeeper for C. D. Bryant & Co. (with four country stores and many farms). Later she became the secretary and bookkeeper for Big Sale Tobacco Warehouse. After marriage, Dorothy was a life time member of Spring Garden Presbyterian Church, now Spring Garden Community Church, and served in many capacities with her church. Her love for the Lord and her church were a part of her everyday life. During her young adult life, she was very active with the Spring Garden Young Homemakers of Virginia. Her dedication led her to become Vice-President and later President of the chapter. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 2 pm in Hillcrest Burial Park, Chatham, Va. with the Reverend Clark Crowder officiating The family will receive friends on Thursday from 7 to 8 pm at Spring Garden Community Church and at other times will be at the residence.
