David Hyler

December 25, 1932 — August 13, 2017

David Hyler, of 2105 Pecan Court, Danville, VA and Sarasota, FL, died Sunday, August 13, 2017 at his residence, after a brief illness.    Born December 25, 1932, in Danville, he was the son of the late Oscar Hyler and Elsie McCain Hyler. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mary Jane Haar Hyler and later married Marion Thomas Hyler, who survives of the home. He was also predeceased by his brother, Garland Keen Hyler.    After graduating from Schoolfield High School, he served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, later attending Danville Community College, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and Averett University.    He retired in 1998 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of American National Bank and Trust Company. Prior to his career of 30 years with the bank, he was Secretary and Treasurer of Piedmont Hardware Company and Office and Credit Manager of Belk-Leggett Company of Danville.    David was a member of Providence Baptist Church and served as a choir member. Prior to this, he had been a member of Woodberry Hills Baptist Church, having served in the choir and as Treasurer of the Church. He was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Danville, also having served in the choir.    He was a member and a past director of the Danville Host Lions Club and was honored by the Lions, being named a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was a past director and secretary of the Danville, Golf Club. He was an organizer and past President of the Danville Clearing House Association and served on committees of the United Way and various banking organizations.    In addition to his wife, Marion, he is survived by a step-son, Steven Taulbee, Sr. of Danville; a step-grandson, Steven Taulbee, Jr. and his mother Denise Ross of Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at Townes Memorial Chapel with the Reverend Mitch Cifers and the Reverend Larry Farrell officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.    The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 15, at Townes Funeral Home from 5:30 to 7:00 PM and at other times at the residence.    The family suggests that memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 18981 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Stuart, VA 24171 or to God’s Pit Crew, 2499 North Main St., Danville, VA 24540.
