Daniel Lewis Vicks, age 90, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at his residence. He was born on May 23, 1924, in Halifax, Va. a son of the late Charlie James Vicks Jr. and Mary Stover Harris Vicks. On March 11, 1943, he married Bessie Moore Vicks who passed away on December 29, 2006. Mr. Vicks had been a resident of Danville most all his life and was employed with Dan River, Inc. for over 50 years until his retirement. He was a former member of Central Boulevard Church of God and had recently joined Mount Vernon United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, William James Vicks and Charlie Lindberg Vicks; and a sister, Mary Vicks Mayberry. He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Vicks Griffith of Danville and Connie Vicks Rowe and husband Clifton of Hampton, Va.; five grandchildren, Emily Griffith Potts and husband, David, William Christopher Griffith, Jennifer Rowe Jordan and husband Curtis, Phillip Daniel Rowe, Jordan Elizabeth Rowe and Angela Rowe McDonald and husband, Sean; seven great-grandchildren, Slade and Piper Potts, Jordan and Wade Jordan, Willow and Annabelle Holman and Rowan McDonald; two sisters, Thelma Vicks Barber and husband Otis of Charlotte, N.C. and Martha Vicks Campbell of Danville; a brother, Carl David Vicks and wife Sandy of Atlanta, Ga. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 27, at 2:00 pm at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church with the Reverend Barry Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will be at the residence his daughter, Bonnie Vicks Griffith, 161 Westhampton Avenue.
