Coy Emmett Harville died, at the age of 79, on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Roman Eagle Nursing Home in Danville, Virginia where he had resided for the past few months. He was the son of the late James Washington Harville and Essie Eanes Harville. He attended Whitmell Farm Life High School and later proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Coy married the former Jean Daniel Scearce on June 10, 1989 and they lived on their beloved Riverbend Farm. After 32 years of service, he retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Coy served on the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors for sixteen years. Serving as chairman for six years. He held the position of chairman for the Metropolitan Planning Commission, Danville-Pittsylvania Regional Industrial Authority (RIFA), and Pittsylvania County Service Authority. He was a member of the Pittsylvania County Planning Commission, Fire and Rescue Emergency Medical Service Advisory Committee and a member of the Danville Life Saving Crew Board of Directors. Coy was instrumental in establishing the Riverbend Volunteer Fire Department where he volunteered for numerous years. Besides serving as a community leader, he enjoyed hunting, gardening and farm life. One of his greatest pleasures was having people enjoy their park along the Dan River. He was a member of West Main Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Coy is predeceased by two brothers James Harville and Fred Harville. Coy is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jean; his daughter, Dr. Tina R. Harville of Cary, NC; his stepdaughter, Sandy S. Lutton of McLean, VA; his stepson, K. Lee Scearce (Michelle) of Elizabeth City, NC; his grandchildren Ashlyn Scearce, Lane Scearce, Jack Lutton, Lilly Lutton, Luke Lutton and his great granddaughters Averie and Olivia. He is also survived by his brother Ricky Harville; his sisters, Martha Clark (Billy) and Madeline Morris (Neal) plus nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by Ryan Comper and Emily Comper who loved him as a grandfather. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at West Main Baptist Church officiated by Reverend Drew Herring. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Interment will follow at Danville Memorial Gardens.
