Conrad Gammon

October 13, 1932 — August 30, 2014

Mr. Conrad (Jack) Jackson Gammon of 306 Annhurst Drive went to be his Lord on Saturday, August 30, 2014 after a decline in health. Mr. Gammon was born in Danville on October 13, 1932, a son of the late Thelma White Gammon and Sam Henry Gammon. Mr. Gammon was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Army. Jack was an avid golfer and loved gardening, especially his roses. He was always doing and helping others at all times. He had retired as a supervisor with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after many years of service. He is survived by his wife of the home, Shirley Cook Gammon, one daughter, Connie G. Scearce and her husband Bobby of Danville, one son, Barry L. Earles of Danville, two granddaughters, Jennifer E. McKenney of Danville and Shana L. Steffey and her husband Justin of Bracey, VA and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Douglas G. Gammon and Marvin A. Gammon and his wife Margaret all of Danville and one sister, Iris Scearce and her husband Wayne of Danville, his mother-in-law Mary C. Hardy and a special nephew David John Burns. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. from Mount Hermon Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Danny Davis, Reverend Ryan Riley and Reverend David Smith officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service and at other times will be at the residence, 306 Annhurst Drive. A private committal service will be held with military honors to be conducted by the American Legion Dan River Post #1097 and the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that memorials may be directed to God's Store House, 750 Memorial Drive, Danville, VA 24541 or to God's Pit Crew, 2499 North Main Street, Danville, VA 24540. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Gammon family.
