Clyde (Sonny) Emerson Pitchford, 81, passed away on October 12, 2024. Born with Down syndrome to the late Frank Harvey and Lois Ann Sarver Pitchford, Clyde married Carolyn Ann Hatchell on August 24, 1968, in Newport News, VA. They are now reunited for eternity, and their absence is deeply felt.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Pitchford. He is survived by his devoted lifelong friend and caregiver, Patricia Cook, as well as his goddaughter, LuCinda Cook. He also leaves behind his brother, Frank Pitchford (Lynn) of Seaford, VA, along with many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
Throughout his life, Clyde achieved many remarkable goals, including riding a pony, playing Roy Rogers, swimming with a shark, and piloting his father’s yacht through both storms and calm waters. He attended Hargrave Military Academy and graduated from high school.
After marrying his church sweetheart Carolyn, Clyde dedicated over 28 years to his career before retiring. One of his greatest joys was serving his church as both a deacon and treasurer. His happy, loving personality will be missed by many.
