Clayton Reed

Clayton Bernard Reed, 91, of 113 Riceland Street, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 in Danville Regional Medical Center. Born on December 16, 1921 in Melvin Hill, NC, he was a son of Will Reed and Allie Richardson Reed. He attended Clemson University and was married to Dorothy Jones Reed who survives of the home. Mr. Reed was a cost accountant at Hylton Hall for Dan River Inc. and later with Durham Hosiery until his retirement. He was a member of Melvin Hill Church of the Brethren and attended Blessed Hope Church. He was a ham radio operator for a number of years and his call letters were W4AKL. In addition to his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by a daughter, Susan Reed Chaney of Ringgold; two grandchildren, Wendy C. Morgan and her husband, Dwayne of Blairs, Tony W. Chaney and his wife, Becky of Ringgold; and three great-grandchildren, Haley, Andrew and Lucas. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 2 PM from Danville Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Brian Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Townes Funeral Home from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times the family will be at the residence.
