Cindy Smith

August 30, 1958 — March 3, 2015

After faithfully serving her Lord and her family for 56 years here on Earth, Cindy Chandler Smith went home to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 3, 2015. Cindy was born on August 30, 1958 in Danville to the late John and Betty Chandler. Cindy was a lifetime resident of Milton, NC. She graduated in 1976 from Bartlett Yancey High School and worked at Danville Regional Medical Center for 31 years. Cindy fought a vigilant battle with brain cancer for 18 years. She will long be remembered for her faith and testimony during this time. Cindy was a loving wife, mother, and friend to many. She was a very active member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Cindy patterned her life by two commandments. "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and thy whole mind, and with thy whole strength" and "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." Cindy was eager to help her fellow person and always did it modestly with no desire for recognition. Cindy is survived by her husband Robert J. "Bobby" Smith of the residence, two sons, Daniel R. Smith and John R. Smith of Milton, NC, two brothers, Ricky A. Chandler and wife Cathy of Cascade, VA and Gary W. Chandler and wife Kelli of Rocky Mount, NC; and one sister Beth Powell and husband Benji of Danville, VA. The family would like to thank the staff of Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for the care of Cindy. A special thanks to Dr. Deric Park, UVA Medical Center and the late Dr. Joel Singer for their care. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1760 Yarborough Mill Road, Milton, NC with the Reverend Brud Perry and Reverend Ronnie Wyatt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday March 6, 2015 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home. At other times will be at the home, 114 Old Montgomery Road, Milton, NC. In lieu of flowers, Cindy requested donations be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, Cindy Smith Bible Fund, 1450 Jack Pointer Road, Semora, NC 27343.
