Charlie Thomas of Tucker, Georgia, passed away peacefully June 26, 2022 at Park Springs Senior Living Community with his daughter at his side. Charlie was born to Robert and Narvus Thomas of Columbia, South Carolina December 24, 1932. He served in the army for two years from 1953-1955 and then went to work for Southern Railway in 1955 where he met his wife of 56 years, Marjorie. Together they raised two children, Laura Lee Thomas and Charles Costner Thomas Jr. “Buddy”. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway in 1985 after 30 years of building the railroads communications network, and then he started his own business, Cellular Specialists, building out one of the two original cellular telephone networks in the Atlanta area, which he operated until 2010. He was preceded in death, by his parents, brother, sister, wife, two brothers in-law, three sisters in-law and two nephews. He was a dedicated member of the church he loved, Smoke Rise Baptist Church of Stone Mountain, Georgia, for over 38 years where he volunteered regularly and always greeted everyone with a warm smile and a handshake.He was a member at Smoke Rise Country Club where he ran the senior men’s golf group for years, and where he loved spending as much time as possible playing golf (the game he truly loved) with his friends. A dedicated husband, father and friend who always had time to spend with his children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren whether it was playing a game of catch, punting a football, or teaching them how to water ski. He played the guitar and enjoyed telling endless stories and jokes that always kept everyone entertained. He is survived by his son, Buddy Thomas of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and two cherished grandchildren, Amelia and Caroline (who loved their Poppy dearly) daughter, Laura Thomas Morgan and husband, Allen Walker of Atlanta; cherished nieces and nephews and countless others who loved to be around him. A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, he will be remembered for his fun loving, mischievous, personality and his gentle soul! The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 29 from 6 to 8 pm at Bill Head Funeral Home (Tucker/Lilburn Chapel). A Memorial Service Honoring the Life of Charles Costner Thomas Sr. will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2:00 PM at Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, GA.
