Charles Benjamin Purdue, 65, passed away on January 8th in the Danville Memorial Hospital. Charles, better known as Charlie to his friends, Schveetie by his wife, Ben by relatives and Pap to his grandchildren. Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Clarence and Geraldine Purdue. He resided in Danville with his wife, Bonni Kohr Purdue, both formerly of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, along with his son, Charles Benjamin Purdue II, his wife, Denise Purdue and their daughter Marisa Kott, and his mother-in-law, Doris Lorraine Kohr, who recently moved to Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his daughter Kimberly Evans, and grandchildren, Michael Brown, Kelsey Heist, Louis Kott, Jordan Charles Rameriz, Keith Brown, Dakota Mroz and a great granddaughter Haelee Brown all from Pennsylvania; his sisters, Gail Inman of Delaware, Nancy Saltos, Jo Judy and Ava all from Pennsylvania; a brother Steve Purdue of New Jersey; and a sister-in-law Patti White and brother-in-law Jim White of Pennsylvania. He was loved by many nieces and nephews Charles and his wife moved to Danville, Virginia in 2005 to open the new store, Boscov's. They are originally from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where they met and married 40 years ago. Charles was a graduate of Enola High School of 1966 and a graduate from Grove City College of 1970. He earned a bachelors degree in economics with a full scholarship in football and wrestling. He was also inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at Grove City for his achievements in wrestling and football. Since his retirement of 2013, he played golf 3 times a week with friends and his loving son. He also enjoyed tutoring his granddaughter Marisa. Charlie and his wife, Bonni, enjoyed spending every moment with each other. He was known as "Bonni's Knight in Shining Armor". He was a wonderful husband and father and will be greatly missed by everyone who touched his heart. There will be a gathering in Pennsylvania at a future date. This was the wishes of Charles and Bonni to save the extensive trip to Virginia by friends and family. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of his mother and father to the American Heart Association of Pennsylvania, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17043 (please designate donation to stay in the Harrisburg, PA area). Visitors will be received at the residence.
