Carroll Franklin Tate of 1123 Medley Road, Alton, VA, died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Born in Laura Grove community on January 27, 1935, he was the son of the late Willie Richard Tate, Sr. and Hester Roberts Tate Hall. Mr. Tate retired from section 59 shipping department of Westinghouse, now ABB. He was married to Elizabeth Brandon Tate who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by a brother Willie Richard Tate, Jr., and a son Randy Tate. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Alton, VA. He is survived by his brother, Clyde William Tate, Sr. (Iris H. Tate) of Chatham, one son, Paul F, Tate of South Boston, three nieces, Cynthia Motley, Chatham, Diane Hudson and Patricia Hudson, Danville, one nephew, Clyde Tate, Jr., of Winston Salem, NC, a granddaughter and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. from Calvary United Methodist Church, 2194 Calvary Road, Alton, VA by Rev. Ralph Hawkins. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home. Mr. Tate requested in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Calvary United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice. Townes Funeral Home, 215 West Main Street, Danville, is serving the Tate family.
