Carol Bier Pribble went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, August 3, 2017, at her residence, with her son and daughter holding her hands, and her husband by her side, after a fierce battle with colon cancer for 2 years. She was born on February 17, 1947 in New York and was raised by her grandparents, A. B. and Macie Roach in Danville, who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her mother, Frances Juanita Roach. Carol was educated in the Pittsylvania County public schools and graduated from the Danville Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Old Dominion University. Over her 45 years of nursing, she had worked in the emergency room at Danville Regional Medical Center, and had worked at Forsyth Medical Center. She then returned to Danville Regional Medical Center to work in the operating room and as a private duty nurse. She retired from the Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center as MDS Coordinator. During her nursing career, she held several offices in AORN. She also enjoyed doing competition ballroom dancing. She was an active member of the ABWA. She is survived by her husband, Gary “Lee” Pribble, of the home; two children, Jennifer Adkins Petrovitch and her husband, Ivan, and Joseph Ray Adkins; her grandson, Dylan Reid Adkins; her aunt, Audrey Cahill; cousins, Marcia Dalton (Tom), Tom Cahill and Louis Cahill (Kathy), Audrey Welch; and her dear friend, Chrystal Cobbs. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Dr. Charles Scearce officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Townes Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 PM. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Danville Cancer Society, 223 Riverview Dr. Suite J, Danville, VA 24541 or to the Mountain Valley Hospice, 18981 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Stuart, VA 24171.
