Bruce Richard Keim, age 69, died peacefully with his wife by his side on December 2, 2023.
Bruce met his wife, Laura, at Virginia Tech, where he studied civil engineering. Following graduation, Bruce spent his entire career working in the cement industry within the same company, beginning at Hercules Cement in Stockertown, PA. He then led the company through numerous projects and key expansions as plant manager of River Cement Co. in Festus, MO, eventually transitioning to a vice president role at Buzzi Unicem USA in Bethlehem, PA. He loved being in the plant with his coworkers, and his car was permanently covered in cement dust. His children and grandchildren have fond memories of exploring the plant with Bruce.
Bruce excelled at whatever he set his mind to - whether it was his black belt in Karate, playing rugby in college, building houses, or infusing the love of exercise and sports within his family. He loved being outside, particularly at the family farmhouse in Sutherlin, VA. He was a lifelong advocate of advancing oneself through education and supported his children in pursuing their educational interests.
Bruce was a social and gregarious person. He had an extroverted personality and often struck up a conversation with everyone (literally, everyone) wherever he went. He loved listening to live music
(especially at MusikFest) and was often the life of the party.
Bruce was a Virginia Tech fan throughout his life, and while he couldn’t convince his children to study at VT, he certainly imparted the love to his grandchildren, who are already huge fans. Moose, or Broof, as he was known to his grandchildren - loved his children and grandchildren. He profoundly loved his wife, Laura, through their 45 years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Milam Keim; children Jessica Keim Malpass, Nash Winchester Keim, Kathleen Bauserman Keim, Emily Keim Shaw, and Daniel David Shaw; grandchildren Howard Charles Malpass IV (Huck), Otto Winchester Keim, Archie Pegram Keim, Baylor Daniel Shaw, and Blake Magnolia Shaw. He is preceded in death by his parents Richard Leonard Keim and Mary Berry Keim, and son-in-law, Howard Charles Malpass III (Charlie).
