Brent Starling, son of James and Diana Starling of Danville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 24th, of a sudden illness.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jeff and Sally Starling of Oklahoma City, OK, and sister and brother in-law, Amanda and Adam Weatherford of Bon Air, VA. Also surviving are his beloved nieces and nephews, Addison and Megan Starling, and Elliot and Peter Weatherford. A number of aunts, uncles, and cousins also remember him fondly.
Brent grew up in Danville. He was an honor graduate of George Washington High School and an Eagle Scout. He went to Wake Forest University studying Communication, graduating in 1999 and becoming an enthusiastic Demon Deacon for life. After college he tried his hand at several occupations, including the insurance field and restaurant industry, even owning a restaurant at one time. His next step was graduate school in Strategic Communication at High Point University where he graduated in 2013, having been voted by his classmates the Graduate Student Exemplar as the student best exemplifying the graduate program.
Brent was an engaging personality, a lover of good food and an inspired, creative cook. His love of people eventually took him into the field of hospitality, working for Marriott Hotels as a traveling Senior Operations Manager. In the course of this role, he had 40 assignments from one side of the country to the other, meeting friends all along the way. It seems there’s hardly an American city where Brent doesn’t have at least an acquaintance, if not someone calling him a dear friend. He had a way of making everyone feel seen, heard, and appreciated. He often said he loved everyone until they gave him a reason not to. He had a witty sense of humor and a fun-loving nature. When Brent was there, everyone was laughing and having a good time.
Brent loved animals and children, with this in mind memorials may be made to Danville Area Hu mane Society, 996 South Boston Road, Danville 24540, or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Danville, 1005 North Main Street, Danville 24540.
