Mr. Brantley Keen Batterman of 211 Salisbury Circle died Friday, February 1, 2013 at Roman Eagle Memorial Home after a decline in health. Before being admitted to Roman Eagle Memorial Home he had been a patient at Duke University Medical Center. Mr. Batterman was born in Ringgold on April 22, 1933, a son of the late Hattie Beatrice Keen Batterman and Frederick Christian August Batterman. He was an active member of Fairview United Methodist Church. Mr. Batterman did his Emmaus Walk on Southside Virginia Emmaus of April 1993. He had served on the Steering Committee for Dan River Emmaus. Mr. Batterman was a graduate of Dan River High School and was retired from APAC of Virginia. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1953 to 1955 as a Military Policeman stationed at Fort Knox, KY. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his siblings; William "Bill" Batterman, Clinton Christian Batterman, Charles Raymond Batterman, Geraldine Beatrice Batterman Swicegood and Emma Batterman Vick. Mr. Batterman is survived by his wife of the home; Nancy Edwards Batterman, son, Frederick Christian August Batterman II and his wife Lorie Ann Furches Batterman, daughter, Elizabeth Keen Batterman Scarce and her husband Michael Lee Scarce, granddaughters; Casey Lee Scarce, Tristan Keen Scarce, Abby Nicole Scarce and grandson; Matthew Cole Scarce. Also surviving are one brother, Frederick Mickel Batterman and two sisters; Betty Catherine Batterman Gibson and Peggy Marcella Batterman Williams. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. from Fairview United Methodist Church with the Reverend Kathleen Monge officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the church form 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. and at other times will be at the residence, 211 Salisbury Circle. Townes Funeral Home and Crematory, 215 West Main Street is serving the Batterman family.
