Bobbie Shanks

Bobbie Ruth Anderson Shanks, 93, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 11, 2019, at her residence. She was born May 6, 1926 in Radford, Virginia, a daughter of the late John Malcom Anderson and Carrie R. Linkous Anderson.  Bobbie was a graduate of Radford College. She was employed as an educator with Danville Public Schools for 39 years, teaching At G.L.H. Johnson and E.A. Gibson elementary schools. Bobbie was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church and formerly a member of the Wednesday Club of Danville and the Garden Club of Danville.  She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Fred O. Shanks of the residence, and children John R. Shanks and Lee (Danville), Katherine S. Lofthus and Gary (Wilmington), and Fred O. Shanks, III and Kathy (Danville). Also surviving are 8 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Bobbie’s special friend and caregiver Susie Powell.
