On May 30, 2019, Betty Farrow Stone, beloved wife and mother, passed away. 92 years old, Betty was born on April 26, 1927 to James and Pauline Farrow. Betty was an active member of the River Church until her decline in health. Betty had a real love and kindness toward people which motivated her to found the V.I.P. Senior Gathering. Employed by Dan River Mills she was secretary to the President of Dan River when she retired. Later she worked for All Star Sports. Betty was married to James H. Oakley who died in 1944. They had one child, Rebecca. Several years later in 1948 she married Lyman George Stone. They had one child, Steve. Betty was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, two sisters and both husbands. She is survived by her two children; Rebecca O. Tate (Joe) and G. Steve Stone (Karen). Her three grandchildren, Shawn Stone, James Tate and Ryan Stone, and one grandchild Olivia Tate. And special cousin Donna Rose. Betty was known for her enjoyment of life, her hard working ethic and her willingness to reach out to others. The family will greet friends at Townes Funeral Home on Saturday, June 1st from 7:00 until 8:30pm and at others times at 301 Samuel Bend. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 2nd at 2:00 pm at Danville Memorial Gardens with Reverend Jackie Poe officiating.
