Betty Sartin

Betty English Motley Sartin, age 82 of Providence, N.C. passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019 at her home Ole Oak Farms.      She was born January 23, 1937 in Danville, Va. to Myrtle English Motley and Sumpter G. Motley. She was married to David Sledge Sartin, Sr. on December 12, 1959 for 59 years who predeceased her.      She attended Danville Public Schools graduating from George Washington High School and continuing her education at Woman’s College, University of N. C. at Greensboro earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Education.       A life- long educator, she taught elementary and middle school in Danville Public Schools for 25 years. She continued her dedication to education serving on the Caswell County School Board for 15 years.      Nominated by Herman Moore, she was named NFL Teacher of the year in 1999.      She served on the Community Foundation Board of Directors, was a member of the Wednesday Club and later Chairperson, the Danville Braves Association, and often volunteered with Providence Fire & Rescue, Inc.      Surviving are her son David Sledge Sartin, Jr. and wife Jane, two grandsons, David Sledge Sartin, III (Lauren) and Daniel Motley Sartin, (fiancée Savannah Starnes), sister-in-law Ruby Sartin Hovatter (Gerald), niece Joan Butler (Sam), nephew Gordon Hodges (Melissa) and their children along with numerous cousins and her devoted care giver Doris Hamlett.     Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 5, 2:00 P.M. at Providence Baptist Church, 5762 Walters Mill Road, Providence, N. C. with Reverends Donald Davis and Ralph Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends at home 3404 Park Springs Road, Providence, N.C.      Special thanks for the support from Alamance/Caswell Hospice.      Memorial donations may be made to Providence Fire & Rescue, Inc. P. O. Box 98, Providence, N.C., 27315.
