Betty Garner

December 31, 1969 — August 26, 2021

Betty Evans Garner, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2021, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered in her life. Betty, and Bill, her surviving husband of 71 years, leave a family legacy of two children – Nancy Johnson (husband Keith) of VA, and William Garner Jr. (wife Mary) of NC, seven grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Born in Danville, VA on September 20, 1928, Betty was predeceased by her parents (William and Adele Evans) and Jack and Garnetta Barbour, the uncle and aunt who raised Betty. She survives one sister, Nancy Rosse of Richmond, VA and predeceased by her sister Patricia Mabe Stafford. Betty began her working career at Herman’s department store in Danville VA, later worked as an Executive Assistant to the Dean of Journalism at the University of Maryland, and moved on to finish her working career and retire from Verizon, Inc. Betty, in her younger years with her husband, was an avid square dancer. She was a passionate, lifelong reader of many different genres and embraced technology into her 90’s. Betty enjoyed using her iPad and cell phone, on a daily basis, to play games and text her relatives. Betty will be missed by all and loving memories will remain.
